Right I'm new to this producing game, well I've sat with people while they've produced but never done it myself. I'm going to buy a MAC and run Logic on it but need help on what other external equipment I should buy ? Keyboard, Rack synths, Mixing console, effects etc...... I'm going to be making trance BTW. Money is no object just want to know what is the best stuff to get :D

Yeah no problem, I'll buy everybody a top spec G5 ! disappointed.gifwink.gif

Yeah I would like a G5 but I'm going to buy a G4 Powerbook cause I need it to be portable. Don't think I can wait until the G5 powerbook comes out cause by the sounds of it, it could be a while.

Any comment on what synths you'd recommend ? Most seem to think the Virus C and Nord Rack III are the best for trance but I want more opinions.

if youre gonna be making trance, make the access virus your first choice of hardware synth. second choice id go for the nord lead 2/3. the supernova, although a wicked unit suffers sound-wise next to the others.

ive got a nova, which has an identical sound engine to the supernova (just less polyphony and multi-parts), a virus c, and a nord modular (nord lead+) and if i was gonna have to get rid of one of the 3 it would be the nova..

the nova doesnt have the lushness in the sound as the other two! it sounds REALLY digital and hard, but kinda thin (good for metallic techy sounds)

...whereas the virus has a wonderful creamyness (no pun intended) to the sound and is perfect for trance.

the nord lead has the industry standard rich powerful pads and leads and is a piece of piss to program (not the modular version..which is an absolute cnut to get your head round.. a degree in synth programming req....lol)

access and nord are the way to go for trance!n a supernova is a welcome addition but not an essential buy..

as a base for your studio, id deffo recommend logic platinum on a mac... my next buy (if i ever sort out my finances...lol)

exactly why i use it.

Agreed not really essential for trance, my fault for not fully reading the initial post.

what sound card have you got in the G5 mate?

If you're new to this i would [censored] hardware off at the moment and try to get to grips with logic as that will take you long enough as it is.

As you're going to have all these wonderful toys and it's going to create so much of a distraction that you wont focus on learning one thing inside out.

If you don't spend enough time learning say logic inside out then no matter what hardware you've got you're gonna sound crap.

Like you i'm lookin into gettin a mac, but a titanium with an external soundcard with logic 6. gonna cost a pretty penny but i'm slowly saving, but in the mean time i'm gettin my noggin around logic 5.5 on the pc, even with a a mate that is a whizz at it it's still a hard prog to get used too.

how's your knowledge on synths?

hardware has sweet F.A to do with producing in IMO. i use a cappy yamaha psr320 ? or something like that which i simply midi up to my computer and use samples off all the latest keyboards anyways. You'll find most sortware have their own effects units in the anyways - so if your looking at getting virus C jsut for the effects and that - i wouldn;t bother - simular sounds can be created using software nowadays.

If your new to producing - i think your going in way over your head with the hardware - hell i know some top notch producers who dont even have that much!!

i'd start small mate - then work towards a bigger kit \ PA set etc etc smile.gif
