sorry to hear that mate, the best thing to do is to believe in what you wanna,if anyone else thinks it's wrong then its up to them,i dont believe in most things supernatural but i do think that peole still live on after the body has given up,i feel that my grandma, that died earlier this year is looking over my grandad, that is why he is still going even after 3 strokes and a heart attack.even tho there is no actual way of ever finding this out i think is up to the person to make their own mind up!!! thumbs.gif

I'm suprised (again) to see so many people so sure that there is nothing after death.

I am a very firm believer that there is life after death (well in fact you never die in fact). Our boddies and matter are just 'vehicles' for us to perform specific tests in specific regions of universes. Tests are built around the chosen environment for us (Earth being an early/simplist level possibly, possibly not)

I personally have concrete evidence in my mind built up over a number of years which leads me to believe all this - in fact its not a question of believe - its a question of i've seen the light and snippets of what is to come. Its very exciting ! Those who wish to have more information (and are interested, and not just time-wasters) please PM me or meet up with me one evening. I have told a few close friends about my 'visions' and I'm pleased to say I dont think they think i'm completely off my nut (and i know i'm not!)

Also, I currently believe that there is no beginning and there is no end.

I do believe there is something after your life is over. I have no proof, obviously. But I remember once, that I thought my nan was in my house (about 3 years after her death) 2 years ago. The reason why I say this, is beacause I was sat on my sofa one night in my house. A sweet smell passed under my nose, a smell that made me think "where have a i smelt that before?" and I couldn't think for the life of me what is was. I ignored it, but this smell would come and go every other day...I literally though nothing of it at first.

Me and my mum were sitting at home one night, having a little gossip. She was sat on the sofa and I was sat on the other chair. My mum stopped talking to say "what perfume are you wearing" and i said I wasn't wearing any. Even my own mother recognised this smell and she coudln't think where she has smelt it before. Then I remembered, this scent of what was just "breezing" passed us now and again, was the purfume that my nan used to wear, and I remember the first time I seen my nan use it, it was the purfume I loved and I remember asking her for her to buy me some of that scent.

Told my mum and she couldnt believe it. Couldn't tell my dad though as it was his mum and it would have really messed with him as his dad passed away not long before this happened. I DO believe my nan was watching over my dad as alot of trouble was caused in the family not long after my nan died and my dads brothers and sisters turned on my dad as and when my nan died. I have always told myself that, that was my nan in my house telling us that things will tuen out ok and all the trouble will stop.

And they did. smile.gif

This is why I believe there is something after death. smile.gif

I'm a little curious as to why there would be a need for a body, if a person when they die, can some how become a ghost and glide around as an unmeasurable, untestable energy?

How would something that requires energy and the bodies processes, suddenly at death no longer need this system to stay in existance? Then some how avoid detection by scientific instruments, but not be able to evade detection by someone who claims they can see "dead people".

I just can't take the leap of faith required to believe in an the after death, ghosts or other paranormal phenomena. I need some sort of evidence.

Just curious.

Fair enough Jack - I can see why you want evidence but also where is the evidence to suggest that you are definitely no more after 'death'..

I believe each individual has some kind of core system/soul but, for the benefit of some tests, this takes on additional attributes - such as some form of body/physical respresentation. When you die on this earth the physically attributes are discarded and the lessons learnt from you brain are stored away . You then start your next 'task/test' in some other universe (or perhaps same) in the form of a different physical object (or perhaps same)

ps. Jack - perhaps the evidence doesnt/intentionally cant exist on this earth so humans cant work it out. i.e. its by design (e.g. too much knowledge is dangerous)

i think evidence sort of runs out after (and before) life happens...

evidence is all about physical stuff (including wind n light etc - 'real' stuff)

no one quite knows exactly how life is made -- and how to restore it after it's been lost.

so i think the evidence thing kind of doesn't apply when ur thinking about this... it might be impossible to have evidence about it.

ps i was brought up in technical subjects - I'm as much about how and why as anyone...but it might just "not apply" here.

i think colin pretty much summed up the confused mess of things i am feeling and pretty much agree with him, but there is still some thoughts/doubts going through the bak of my head.

if you're talking about the fact that there is no evidence for the existence that there is no afterlife then therefore it must not exist then that's fair enough. but who says that we have the capability to detect thigns of this sort.

also, the absense of evidence does not prove something, can't remember where i got that from, a scientist i read about and stuided in a bioethics module i think. go back a few centuries and there was no evidence stated for the sun to not be the centre if the universe, just that people abck then did not have the ability to test this theory.

just some random thoughts on the subject smile.gif

I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but for me the lack of evidence and the leap of faith required to believe is simply not enough, it does leave me with the opinion that I have. That I do not believe in an afterlife, heaven or any other thing that helps comfort the bereaved.

The afterlife idea is just a little bit too idealistic, it just seems to be a way to comfort people, facing or coming to terms with lose.

Never study forensics if you believe in the afterlife/god/etc... It ruins the whole idea.

tis always interested me in how friends i ahve who do science courses reconcile their beliefs with what they learn and are taught on thir courses.

like my friend tim who does zoology which includes evolution btu he believes strictly in the bible and that god created everything.

whereas me, i've never eeally belived in it. like you said, just comforting thought when it comes to times of adversity and loss...

Jack - i agree with you that many/most people dream up these afterlife concepts for their, or others, comfort - but in may case this is certainly not the case. Obviously I have too lost people but I believe in the concept that closed chapters are that - closed - I am under no mis-conceptions that I may see these people again and totally accept that. My reasons for belief arent for comfort reasons they are as a result of too much daydreaming and over-analysis over the last few years nut.gif

how old are you?

in one sense you are over 10 billion years old. the atoms which make up your body have been floating around the universe in some form or other sing the start of time (for want of a better term).

if there is a continuation of physical matter it's not that much of a stretch to imagine a continuation of consciousness...

i expect that we're not able to comprehend the issues involved, that's all.

i don't believe in the traditional view of heaven and hell but i guess i'll find out the hard way. one thing's sure, if heaven's full of christians i don't want to be there smile.gif
