I just can't take the leap of faith required to believe in an the after death, ghosts or other paranormal phenomena. I need some sort of evidence.

it may be that humans, today, are simply not equipped to understand the concepts involved in providing such evidence. either way, you'll find out like the rest of us smile.gif

how old are you?

in one sense you are over 10 billion years old. the atoms which make up your body have been floating around the universe in some form or other sing the start of time (for want of a better term).

if there is a continuation of physical matter it's not that much of a stretch to imagine a continuation of consciousness...

i expect that we're not able to comprehend the issues involved, that's all.

i don't believe in the traditional view of heaven and hell but i guess i'll find out the hard way. one thing's sure, if heaven's full of christians i don't want to be there smile.gif

Seems to me you're just as unwilling to accept death like most other people

You said "we're not able to comprehend the issues involved"

so maybe we should base our judgement on what we do know

i.e. we are mortal beings. and we should get used to it

quite the opposite. if that's the impression i gave, then apologies. i've recently become quite comfortable with the idea of death.

however, i'm not so arrogant or naive to suggest that it's the end with no room for debate or that different people's ideas of death might be right or that i'm simply not wired appropriately to truly understand the concept.

perhaps. i'm mortal. i'm used to it. that doesn't mean i don't considers possibilities beyond those i actually understand. i think that makes me human and not just some machine plodding to its grave.

regards

That's not really something that is going to convince me though. The thought that somehow we can't measure or observe something and instead have to make do with hearsay from people until something is invented in the future that can detect the "after life". I just need more convincing evidence, not some story a person has imagined to be real. "I saw a bright light! It was the gateway to heaven!!" Whilst lying on the operating table under the operating light and being anaesthetised.

As soon as computers can be used to observe what goes on in peoples minds, from life to death (in far greater detail than is currently observed), then we'll be able to see what goes on.

Very true, but I'm in no hurry to find out and I have a suspicion it won't be something that I will observe as I will be dead.

Such are my beliefs.

I don't do much on this planet, but David Blaine has taught me that I could do less!!

Sorry to hear about your Grandma hun. grouphug.gif

I do believe there is something when you die. I went to a medium when my Granparents passed away and it was truly amazing. There is no way this woman could have known the things she told me. My mum often goes to a spiritualist church and has readings. My brothers are a bit dubious but have never been. I don't believe in one god or anything like that but I believe in a spirit of the person passed over. I also believe that some can get stuck along the way which is where you get ghosts and all that.

Spot on, my thoughts exactly smile.gif i've been to a medium, as have my mom and aunty on several occasions, and there's no way they could have known what they did.

i'm a believer.

well, i wasn't trying to convince you. you have your beliefs and i have mine smile.gif

on the subject of evidence, do you believe in gravity? it's not possible to witness or measure gravity - but we can witness and measure its effects. the theory of gravity remains just that - a theory.
