Blaine: He's Uri who?

 

DAVID Blaine has banned “pal” Uri Geller from his hospital bedside, branding him a “hanger-on”.

 

 

Spoon-bending psychic Geller visited Blaine’s plastic box on 30 of the 44 days he was starving inside.

 

He has since called the private East London clinic where US illusionist Blaine has been recovering after walking free on Sunday night — and hoped to visit him this week.

 

But Blaine, 30, has barred Geller from coming anywhere near him.

 

And he has told friends the TV psychic is after publicity for himself.

 

A source close to the millionaire magician said: “Geller has been hanging around David during this project so much that it is really starting to annoy him.

 

“It is fair to say David is finding Geller a pain.

 

“He couldn’t do much about it when he was in the box, but David would not want to see Uri in hospital.”

 

Geller, 56, said he visited the box beside Tower Bridge to “support a good friend”.

 

But a security officer guarding New Yorker Blaine during the stunt said: “We’ve been told to treat Uri like any member of the public.

 

“He tells people he’s David’s mate. But Blaine’s complained he is a ‘hanger-on’ and wants nothing to do with him.”

 

Geller says Blaine visited him in England as a lad.

 

He said: “I inspired him. We’ve been friends ever since.”

 

But while Blaine admits Geller was a boyhood inspiration he insists he’s had nothing to do with him recently.

 

His publicist Pat Smith confirmed yesterday: “David says Uri was an early role model, but he has no connection to the endurance challenge and in no way inspired David’s current activities.”

 

Yesterday Geller said: “How can anyone say I’ve had no involvement with David when I was talking to him the day he went in the box?

 

“Each time he saw me he’d raise his thumb and smile. I have called the hospital, but I did not try to speak to him because he is recuperating.”

 

Blaine is likely to stay all week at Stepney’s London Independent Hospital. Doctors expect a full recovery.
