I repeat...

with lord of the rings u couldnt just watch/read 2, or 3. u need to see 1 1st for it to make sense.

Same as Back to the Future then. You need to watch the first 2 to really understand whats going on.

noooooo

u dont have to. it helps but u dont have to as they each start and finish

But its still 1 story so it counts a 1 film by your rules coz each one continues onto the next.

What about Matrix 2 and 3 then? are they 2 films or 1 film separated into 2? Admittedly the first one is OBVIOUSLY a completely different film. So does that make it 2 films in 3 or 3 films of 2 different stories?

doesn't even matter about how the storyline progresses... it matters how many films there are. Matrix 2 and Matrix 3 are two different films - thats why they have different titles. Otherwise there'd just be "The Matrix"....

Next top ten please...

Top, top film - could never work out whether it was good advert for trial by jury though, because not every jury has a Henry Fonda character to save the day...

Other films to throw into the pot...

Memento

Goodfellas

Fight Club

Vertigo

Se7en

Awakenings

Happiness

Heat

In The Company of Men

Donnie Darko

As for the Trilogy debate, its ridiculous to count them as one film, especially when different directors and casts are involved. How can The Phantom Menace be uttered in the same breath as The Empire Strikes Back.

i never said that star wars was one movie. In fact i said they're different movies. banghead.gifRead my posts again. LOTR is 1 movie in 3 volumes is wot im saying because they are not stand alone movies. Asked my flat mates last nite and they all agreed with me.

With the matrix 2 and 3 i wud agree that they are 1 movie in 2 volumes whilst the first is a stand alone movie

I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse.

You may not have said Star Wars was one movie, but I was merely illustrating the same point about trilogies etc. Matrix and Matrix 2 are stand alone movies.

Godfather and Godfather Part II are fantastic movies in their own right. Indeed, I would argue that this was the first example of a sequel bettering its predecessor. Its disingenuous to lump these separate films together, especially when the third part was gash.

LOTR, Matrix, Star Wars whatever... they all contain separate films...

u didnt read my post properly again. i said that matrix is 1 movie but matrix 2 and 3 are 1 movie in 2 volumes as theyre not stand alone, ie matrix 2 doesnt have a proper ending and leads straight into matrix 3.

its the same with lotr.

fellowship of the ring: beginning

The Two Towers: middle

Return of the King: End

u cant just watch one and have the complete story

JRR tolkien originally wrote it as 1 book but cos it was so big released it in 3 volumes as he wrote them

I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse.

I tried to read your posts properly, I tried to understand what you said. I just completely disagree with the point you are trying to make.

Dont worry ben, i'm with you on this one, LOTR is one book originally, just split, if you watch the first 2 lotr you see that there are no endings, the end of the movie will be the end of the 3rd installment. It is 3 seperate recordings telling one story, as the matrix 2&3 are 2 installments to make 1 movie!

The people disagreeing are obviously very silly! lol

thanku.

some1 else who understands the reality of lotr

have the others even read the books or are they too long with too many long words
