Being at the top of any trade you'd expect a hefty pay packet, why should DJ's be any different?

Admitedly there is a fine line between a hefty pay packet and pure greed, but as loing as the DJ realises that they're hardly to blame.

what about djs who turn up late, walk off early, or play [censored] and still demand their full fee?? If you did that in a 'real' job, people would tell you to [censored] off....

Agreed, unless they're key assets. Many DJ's have become key assets to clubs when they don't necessarily need to be. DJ's that attract punters make money, some promoters aren't prepared to forget that fact, thats why theres a lot of DJ's at the top that don't necessarily deserve to be there.

I think it's insane what some DJs charge compared to the crappy sets a lot of them play. Crystal Method is at the top of the list. Three times they are being brought in to Vision Nightclub now...all three times they trainwreck like crazy, got trashed, played all over the place with their music, and got paid big cash to do all that.

I think if someone is a big name, they should be able to make a living, but to me, it's a living of buying a nice home and car, not buying a mansion and a Ferarri. Some people are seeing the light though. Some big DJ nights here in Chicago have low turnouts, mostly because people want QUALITY now. Big names are not as big celebrities as they used to be. Makes room for the locals.

In the end, I hope it will lead promoters to push the PARTY and not a DJ lineup. As for the big names finding music, it's easier for them...they get it all free from all over. Compare that to the local DJ who is out there hustling to get promos and is at the store every week to see the new releases.
