Dont think anyone is claiming to be music experts, just typing their opinions of the specific genres they are into, which I find interesting & knowlegable as I really dont know to much about music, except how it sounds to my lug holes!! You've proved my point entirely. What is the point of giving something a completely different name just because it is a bit more/less cheesy, or has a few 303 sounds?! Back to my earlier example: tech house can be uplifting or dark; funky or energetic; intense or laid-back; it can be quirky/techy/dubby or housey/tribal; it can be influenced by progressive and/or electro and/or deep house... My point is, good tech house DJs embrace all of these styles, but we don't feel the need to pigeonhole every little sub-genre. Same goes for progressive house, breakbeat, trance ... so what is so special about hard dance that it requires 50,000 different sub-genres? I don't even know what acid techno is, but as far as I am aware, most of the techno sub-genres are at the hard end of the spectrum, as per my point! (acid/industrial etc) Name one non-hard sub-genre of techno...? (tech-house and electro are offshoots of techno but very different styles) I have issues with the name progressive house too; it started out as a "more cool" rebellion against the epic / self-indulgent / anthemic trance, but admittedly a lot of supposed progressive trance isn't all that different IMHO! Guest
Do you know what Andy i dont really know who is wrong or who is right & TBH I dont really care, IMO if I hear music I like then so what if it's a sub-genre or whatever, does it really matter aslong as it is appealling to the ear!!! CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted November 11, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted November 11, 2003 Agreed re "does it really matter". Good music is good music. That is exactly the reason I question the need for so many sub-genres of hard dance. People need to get a bit more open-minded and stop pigeonholing. I agree, why create a different genre names for what are essentially just different componants of the the same genre? Quote I'M HUNGRY!
