depending on the person and their musical preferences the 'current state of hard dance' will be different for everyone. just because a few people don't like a certain style of music doesn't in fact mean there is anything wrong with the scene at all.

these comments....'the hard dance/trance/house scene is [censored]' are only based on personal feelings towards the different styles. everybodys tastes in music change but i do fail to see why these people then have to announce that the music they once liked is '[censored]'

it may be for that individual but there are many people who will disagree. personally, i feel no-one is right or wrong in a discussion like this....its all very individual thumbs.gif

i agree.it does piss me off when ppl go on about how [censored] a nite is when its just a case of doin to much of the same thing, its bound to get boring after a while.

hard dance had lost its sparkle slightly to me but i realise that after doin the same events almost every wkend for 3 yrs its gonna happen.

some hardcore, freeform and nu energy is a refreshing change.

Most the people that post in here funnily enough.

Dont think anyone is claiming to be music experts, just typing their opinions of the specific genres they are into, which I find interesting & knowlegable as I really dont know to much about music, except how it sounds to my lug holes!! thumbs.gif

difference between hardcore and freeform is that freeform is a lot more 'serious' - compare karim and lisa pinup styles of hardhouse and thats kinda how it applies to the 2...

hardcore is (usually!) a lot more fun (or 'cheesy' as a lot of people name it) whilst freeform is a lot more fullon - usually based around the huge 303 riffs you often find...

You've proved my point entirely. What is the point of giving something a completely different name just because it is a bit more/less cheesy, or has a few 303 sounds?! shrug.gif

Back to my earlier example: tech house can be uplifting or dark; funky or energetic; intense or laid-back; it can be quirky/techy/dubby or housey/tribal; it can be influenced by progressive and/or electro and/or deep house...

My point is, good tech house DJs embrace all of these styles, but we don't feel the need to pigeonhole every little sub-genre.

Same goes for progressive house, breakbeat, trance ... so what is so special about hard dance that it requires 50,000 different sub-genres? confused.gif

I don't even know what acid techno is, but as far as I am aware, most of the techno sub-genres are at the hard end of the spectrum, as per my point! (acid/industrial etc)

Name one non-hard sub-genre of techno...? (tech-house and electro are offshoots of techno but very different styles)

I have issues with the name progressive house too; it started out as a "more cool" rebellion against the epic / self-indulgent / anthemic trance, but admittedly a lot of supposed progressive trance isn't all that different IMHO!

Do you know what Andy i dont really know who is wrong or who is right & TBH I dont really care, IMO if I hear music I like then so what if it's a sub-genre or whatever, does it really matter aslong as it is appealling to the ear!!! shrug.gif

Agreed re "does it really matter". Good music is good music. That is exactly the reason I question the need for so many sub-genres of hard dance. People need to get a bit more open-minded and stop pigeonholing.

You are the man liquid eyes!! I agree, why create a different genre names for what are essentially just different componants of the the same genre? confused.gif

I'M HUNGRY!
