Agreed. I guess it reeks of trying to cram in a load of big names, at the expense of the actual music (though personally I've never witnessed a set shorter than 1.5 hours).

On the other hand, I think the concept of a 4+ hour set is a bit dubious and self-indulgent. shrug.gif

never played a club-set for more then 90mins so far which is dissapointing.... i love to progress things when im mixing but if I wanna do that, I have to rush it like I did @ smile last time (tho that was a bit different I suppose laugh.gif)

Totally agreed Tony/Liquid - defo a case of cramming in lots of names at the expensive of a good build-up

Its obvious, theres far too many wannbes flooding the market, most of them very average leaving the quality ones with very little time. All party of cramming as many "so-called" big names in as possible. Not enough events to cater for the amounts of DJ's now.

Even in the last 6 months things have changed - I started playing out in March, and the sets tended to be 1 1/2 hours, but recently, everything is 1 hour.

I suppose it is something to do with fitting in as many dj's as possible.

As a clubber, I quite like short sets, as I find it more interesting, as there is often more variety. Short sets are especially good if you are not enjoying a dj's set, as you don't have to put up with it for long!

But as a DJ, and hour is pretty wank, it really doesn't give give you any time at all - and you only get to play about 12 tunes! I think 1 1/2 - 2 hours is a nice time to play for, just long enough, without being too long!

I'M HUNGRY!

..and its even more of a piss take when you've got to go back-to-back with someone - so you get to play like what, 5/6 records? great.

I think sets should be a minimum of 1.5 hours and a max of 2

Personally DJ's doing a 3 hour extravaganza bores me to tears, you can find me asleep in the corner somewhere.

if thats the case, the dj playing hasnt done their job very well....
