CTW DJs Tony P Posted November 10, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted November 10, 2003 whats everyones view on this. Seems like DJ sets are getting shorter and shorter these days. I personally think the whole idea of a set was to take you on a journey. hard to do really in an hour isn't it?
CTW Members LiquidEyes Posted November 10, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted November 10, 2003 Agreed. I guess it reeks of trying to cram in a load of big names, at the expense of the actual music (though personally I've never witnessed a set shorter than 1.5 hours). On the other hand, I think the concept of a 4+ hour set is a bit dubious and self-indulgent.
CTW Members Jimmy Posted November 10, 2003 CTW Members Share Posted November 10, 2003 I couldnt put up with more than an hour of hard trance.
Guest
never played a club-set for more then 90mins so far which is dissapointing.... i love to progress things when im mixing but if I wanna do that, I have to rush it like I did @ smile last time (tho that was a bit different I suppose )

CTW Admin James Posted November 10, 2003 CTW Admin Share Posted November 10, 2003 Totally agreed Tony/Liquid - defo a case of cramming in lots of names at the expensive of a good build-up Quote James@ClubTheWorld.uk CTW Admin | ClubTheWorld.uk | Twitter | Instagram Clubbing the world, together ... CTW Promotors CreamyC Posted November 10, 2003 CTW Promotors Share Posted November 10, 2003 Its obvious, theres far too many wannbes flooding the market, most of them very average leaving the quality ones with very little time. All party of cramming as many "so-called" big names in as possible. Not enough events to cater for the amounts of DJ's now. CTW DJs LittleMissLoud Posted November 10, 2003 CTW DJs Share Posted November 10, 2003 Even in the last 6 months things have changed - I started playing out in March, and the sets tended to be 1 1/2 hours, but recently, everything is 1 hour. I suppose it is something to do with fitting in as many dj's as possible. As a clubber, I quite like short sets, as I find it more interesting, as there is often more variety. Short sets are especially good if you are not enjoying a dj's set, as you don't have to put up with it for long! But as a DJ, and hour is pretty wank, it really doesn't give give you any time at all - and you only get to play about 12 tunes! I think 1 1/2 - 2 hours is a nice time to play for, just long enough, without being too long! Quote I'M HUNGRY!
CTW Admin James Posted November 10, 2003 CTW Admin Share Posted November 10, 2003 ..and its even more of a piss take when you've got to go back-to-back with someone - so you get to play like what, 5/6 records? great. CTW Promotors CreamyC Posted November 10, 2003 CTW Promotors Share Posted November 10, 2003 Personally DJ's doing a 3 hour extravaganza bores me to tears, you can find me asleep in the corner somewhere. CTW Admin James Posted November 10, 2003 CTW Admin Share Posted November 10, 2003 I think sets should be a minimum of 1.5 hours and a max of 2 Quote James@ClubTheWorld.uk CTW Admin | ClubTheWorld.uk | Twitter | Instagram Clubbing the world, together ...
