There's always an element of luck when it comes to winning a football tournament - in fact come to think of it, any sporting event. If you have that little bit of luck, like avoiding the top teams until later on in the tournament, the higher your chances of winning.

Yeah but saying "well England are [censored] hot because they got to the semi-finals by beating Latvia, San Marino, Macedonia and Belguim" is not the same as saying "well England reached the semi-finals by beating Italy, France, Portugal and Romania" is it. No. Now agree with me or else.

True but you create your own luck a lot of the time!

 

Even if you have easier teams and get to the semis like Turkey had in the world cup last year,

(they where beaten by a great Brazil side who went on to win)

You have to overcome the best team to win overall!

perhaps this is a segue to a more serious discussion (fancy that ) but isn't this kind of attitude indicative of a problem?

 

fingers crossed that your team gets a bunch of [censored] early opponents so that the job will be easier overall.

France were in France 98 and Euro 2000

 

I do think England were better than Germany in Euro '96, England were very unlucky there!

 

Brazil again in USA '94

 

Dont know about Denmarks win in Euro '92 but they did beat Germany win that final so they deserved it I guess!

 

Germany where the better organized team in Italia '90 but what a [censored] world cup final match that was!

 

Holland had one of the greatest ever teams in Euro '88,

 

Marco Van Basten's goal against the USSR will never be forgotten!!
