only the other day i had a 6 year old throw a stone at my window and i saw him do it twice and run off, when i asked him to stop he sed it wasnt him and told me to fuck off

 

when i was younger yer i got into mischeife but i wold never of deared to be as rude and ill mannerd as that because i new my mum wouldnt have it and i couldnt get away with it

i agree. i think aspects of society today are sad. but it certainly wasn't all wine and roses 50 or 70 years ago. while the nature of societal ills was perhaps a little different, the extent was probably no better or, likely, a little worse.

Oh god totally Alasdiar, I agree, but I bet they had manners back then, no laws saying you couldn't repremand your kids as see fit etc. I mean it in the sense of, well when I was younger, I didnt no swear words until I was alot older, but today you hear kids of 5 or 6 using obscenities & thinking nothing of it, also not sure if this a contributing factor or not, but kids do not seem to have things to do, well in this country at least, as I know your in the states & can not comment on what it is like out there. but Kids today are bought up computer games, pc's etc etc, no out door games or even board games.

Where I live there is no activities at all for the younger kids, not even a park, which I find very sad. You see them just scraping round the streets, nothing to do except get bored & into bother.

 

Also, with the rise of single mothers, young of age too, I feel this possibly is a factor aswell, im not saying they dont cope, as im sure they do, but half the girls are just kids themselves & on there own, the classic case of anything for an easy, quiet life, meaning the kids are getting away with murder etc, I could be wrong but this is how I feel on it.

 

I remember when I was little, seeing the local bobby (jeez makes me sound old ) walking round regularly, making sure we didnt get up to mischief etc, new all our names & the same with all the neighbours/adults etc, if they saw you being no good, they'd tell you off there & then, but now, parents are wary of telling their own children off let alone keeping an eye out for others too.

 

Seems to be a big lack of respect & manners, which I feel is sad

the thought wouldn't have even entered my head, as i knew i would have been too scared of the consequences if my parents found out.

 

At the end of the day it's about how you bring your kids up, in my opinion some parents just don't cut the mustard, they are too wrapped up in their own lives to even know what their kids are up to.

My mum works with kids that are basically little shits and other schools can't control them so they are sent to the school where my mum works. I tell you some of the things they get up to and do is shocking. The fact is that these kids dont' tend to listen to reason at first and in some cases the only thing they do understand is violence because that's what they've been brought up on.

 

Kids today don't fully understand there consequences in my eyes, or if they do they don't care about them because the law will do jack to make them not do it again.

 

We are now in the situation where the children have more power than the adults when it comes to law, that is law turned upside down. So who controls the relationship between children and adults. They do because they know if the adult is mean all they have to do is go to the police and say they attacked me or something. Thus we get gobby little shits.

 

Now i'm not saying it's right in the slightest but national service. It has it's merits, it brought about respect because act out of line and you were knocked to the ground and made to pay for your actions. Yeah it isn't perfect by a long shot, but it would certainly sort a lot of them out and possible give them a career in the future. They could train up to do something else in the forces that could be useful on civie street too.

When I was 10 I used to kick shit out of adults as well as abuse them.

As if, I remember saying shit once, not to an adult, just to someone in the playground, but the school playground adult person whatever they're called shouted at me so bad I nearly cried, I didn't know, luckily my Mum and Dad never found out, had they of done, I wouldn't have allowed to watch Grange Hill for 2 weeks, that was punishment enough for me, I used to love that programme, there was a fit bird in it.

 

I learnt from that day onwards never to swear again and make sure I reverted to the word 'poo' instead of shit until I was about 16. I'm now making up for those lost years in swearing at adults.
