imo they are the most important tracks on the cd.

the 1st track is obviosuly gonna be the 1st thing the listener hears (and they say that 1st impressions are the most important one) and the last tune is (in thery) the last impression of the cd that the listener will have.

how do you go about choosing your 1st and last track? what qualities are you after?

personally i try to pick tunes that are unique yet fit well with the style i play so that it makes the CD stand out. genreally speeking i start the CD of with a breakdown and end it with a breakdown, but it will usually be a techno breakdown as they have more interesting, creative ones rather than some thing thats just designed to build into a beat

i always start with something special but finish with whatever track i can still fit on the cd.

I also no longer prepare mixes cos it ends up with me doing about 2/3 reruns and the same track order gets boring after first attempt due to working out speeds and stuff

Therefore all my cds are as i wud play out live.

I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse.

Start with the weirdest tune I can find.

End with the hardest, most [censored] up tune I can find.

The middle is just a muddle of clashing beats and shitty old techno that nobody listens to anymore thumbs.gif

(good post L)

i dont think anybody on here really does tbh. but must people have an idea of what tune they want to start with and finish with and how they plan to take you on that journey. altho the actually tunes and progression is open to change duing the mix

For me, a CD is very limiting. For the 1st track I always try and find the most "interesting" track. Not too hard, but enough to get the listeners attention.

As for the last track, when I get to the last few mins of a cd I always wish I had more time to take the mix further. So I always put on a track that would represent how I would take the mix on (but with just 1 track if you know what i mean)

Ive never recorded a mix to give to people but if I did Id like to start with an intro or maybe a tune like "captain tinrib - final frontnose" or summit smile.gif

Does this involve using a calculator or plotting graphs? In the same way as calculating your fitness?

neither i dont do it nemore in advance but if u really want to know i mean beat match them in advance so u know approximately what speed everything to help in amking everything accurate. I used to do this when making a cd but it just becomes tedious and my mixes are generally worse so i stopped doing it.

U cud work it out on a calculator tho if u really wanted to but that wud involve knowing the exact bpm of each track and the % that u start the mix off at.

Too much hassle if u ask me. i now prefer to just prepare the first and 2nd track and take it from there
