Blue: A night re-establishing itself

I just wanted to share something with you all, and didn't know where best to post it... I thought General as it is a bit of waffle, and as we're all interested in clubbing we could then chat openly even with any tangents that are taken or corners turned.

Blue is a night that I first started going to not long after I started clubbing. It started as a monthly night, then went weekly for (I think) about 3 years... It then started to die a bit, and I think this was due to changing the music policy from hard dance in the main arena to more funky. Anyway, it got to the point at the start of this year where I'd stopped going religously. I went to one in April (I think), and wasn't impressed at all. I then went in August, and it was absolutely banging. Hard, dirty, fantastic. Everyone was chuffed to bits with it.

I then heard of a few mates that went along since, and they think it's brilliant. I then convinced a large group of mates to go last weekend. The music wasn't as great as I'd hoped, but was still more than acceptable. The atmosphere was amazing. Everyone said what a good time they'd had. But those of us that are Blue "regulars" (or have been) were left feeling a bit dissappointed, knowing it can do better.

I then received the 2Klub (www.2klub.com) newsletter last night, which said of Blue:

"WORD ON THE STREET: BLUE @ SUBWAY CITY, BIRMINGHAM

Word is that attendances and more importantly the vibe at BLUE have been picked up. Last week had Steve Thomas on the line-up in the main room, and reports on the night have consistently been good. The tougher door policy seems to be working, and this monthly event now seems to be re-establishing its reputation as one of Birmingham’s foremost hard dance events."

For those of you that don't know it, the 2Klub newsletter is one of THE leading authorities when it comes to hard dance in the UK. Available to all, and written by a long-standing member of the hard dance community, Jonathan (he's clubbed and promoted for years), it provides feedback to and from clubbers and promoters. The feedback given highlights the good, the bad and the ugly in clubland and for specific events. Nothing is left out, especially when it comes to letting promoters know where they could be making improvements.

My point is (at last, you cry!), it's nice to see an event on the recovery path, going from strength to strength after a few years of fallen glory. It's good to see this happening in a clubland where everyone talks of "recession" and "death of hard dance" and numbers falling, lack of interest and such like.

So, what do people think (not on Blue, but on the wider issue)?
