Hey James and everyone else interested in the development of CTW,

I just came across this new publication developed by the Work Foundation and sponsored by Microsoft and PricewaterhouseCoopers...

You Don't Know Me, but... Social Capital & Social Software

Social capital analysts have debated the implications of the Internet for some years now. But this debate has recently been joined from the opposite side, as software experts and developers are showing an increased desire to understand and improve social networks, both offline and online. This report introduces some of the core ideas of this new unified debate, and outlines possible directions for the future.

It seems to discuss lots of the issues that CTW seems to debate... e.g. cliques, size of communities, appropriate software to support the community, building social capital, linking together face-to-face and online communication effectively...

The weblink is http://www.theworkfoundation.com/research/isociety/social_capital_main.jsp

James - I've also managed to swipe a spare hard copy of the book... so if you want a hard copy just pm me your address and I'll mail it to you.

not sure i understand a lot of the more techy stuff... my IT skills are pretty poo really... all i ever seem to do at work is phone the it support number (maybe it's Maria i speak to come to think of it!?!?)

but the themes about linking community building with internet technology (like ctw does) seem interesting to me...
