If we're talking about the 'remix' of Smells Like Teen Spirit BK played on Radio One's essential mix the other week ... it sounded just like the original to me ... but faster and with a hard house kick...?

Not exactly inspired!

Now someone should do a remix of Lithium (a much more interesting tune IMHO).

Why does music have to be inspiring?

It just made me want to dance

I agree with your sentiment. Good music is good music, and doesn't always have to be completely original or highly imaginative. Some of my favourite house/techno/trance tracks are quite "generic" in certain ways, but quite simply they've been executed really well. "Style over content" if you like.

I just find this particular tune a little tiresome. When I've heard a tune too many times, it just makes me groan to hear the same thing but slightly changed. I think this remix is a cheap way to exploit the familiarity of an existing track (just as when new pop acts cover already-famous songs) without actually doing justice to either of the genres that it's fusing. To me, the remix is neither a good hard house tune or a good rock tune. Just my opinion though! It's not offensive to the ear or anything. smile.gif

Covers/remixes that are cool (IMHO):

* Taking something familiar, but doing something really original with it, or interpreting it in a different style;

* Remixing something unusual or obscure (or at least, something that hasn't been done to death);

* Truly improving a song (e.g. making it funkier/punchier/harder) without necessarily revolutionising it!

I agree with what youve just said Andy, I too have the same views with alot of covers etc.

But with this track, when it was played on a big system, it just worked (for me). I like the original and this is quite similar just beefed up with a 4/4 kick.
