My Graphics card

I recently installed a Geforce4 64mb Graphics card, so i can play all me games on me comp. i seem to be having some problems though.

 

Whenever i play a game, quite often the screen freezes and so does the game, well it crashes. Sometimes after 10-20 seconds it will start up again, sometimes it doesnt. As you can imagine, this is quite annoying when you are trying to slay germans in 'call of duty' .

 

If anyone has any idea of what i need to do please let me know.

 

I'm going crazy.

Did you remove the old drivers for your old card?

Are you using the latest drivers? NVIDIA

Have you defraged the hard drive?

Cleared out the temp directories?

 

These sometimes help solve problems, but not always.

Didnt need to as it was the onboard graphics i was using.

Updated drivers as soon as i installed it

Not for about a month and a half

By temp directories, do you mean my temp internet files? or something else?

If your using XP:

 

C:\WINDOWS\Temp then just delete the files in the directory

C:\Documents and Settings\(your login name)\Local Settings\Temp

(To see the Local Settings directory, you'll need to go to Tools\Folder Options\View\Hidden files and folders: check the "show hidden files and folders").

get:

 

*latest bios for your motherboard

*latest chipset drivers for your motherboard (probly intel siS or via 4-1)

*latest version of directX (9.0b i think)

*latest nvidia drivers (www.nvidia.com , as posted above)

*any patches for the particular game u r using - some games have patches issued for particular cards

 

 

is always a good idea to have as little running in the background as possible (virus scanners n stuff)

 

if u need ne more help please feel free to ask someone else.

 

if that doesnt work reinstall the game, re install the window, sell puter...

well you aren't having the problem with ur pc are you, so there's no reason you SHOULD care.

 

till u have a pc problem....in that case, watch the footy. puters are too much hassle.

ah fuk - if it was an onbaord grafix chip then there could be issues.

 

basically u need to get into 'device manager' and disable the old gfx card drivers.

 

if you dont know what i meen then i will explain

Good point Mr Happy. Bushy have you disabled the onboard graphics card in the BIOS?
