Hola!

 

Karaoke, it is said, first appeared in a bar in Kobe City some 20 years ago. It seems that the resourceful bar owner prepared musical accompaniment tapes to be used when his regular guitar player couldn't show up. These tapes consisted only of a backing track - allowing regular bar-goers to get up and have a crack at belting out the tunes themselves.

 

Singing has always played a part in Japanese socialising - from ancient times parties have been livened up by one (or more) of the guests breaking into song and being accompanied with clapping from the other party guests - so it's not hard to see that this idea would prove popular….

 

Two decades on and Karaoke (a Japanese abbreviated compound word - "kara" coming from "karappo" meaning "empty" and "oke" from "okesutura" meaning "orchestra") has seemingly taken the world over - most of the known world indulges in this particular form of entertainment and Japan even has special roadside booths where you can have a break and a sing now!

 

So come along and belt out your favourite track and help me celebrate my birthday at 'The Gallery Rendezvous', 53-55 Beak St, London, W1F on Thursday 5th August, 7pm til late.

(also my dad almost brought the first karaoke unit to the UK, but the guy who ran his local, that he was going to buy it for thought that no1 wud get up and make a fool of themselves by singing badly. How wrong was he)

i friggin love kareokis but much prefer a good old kareoki nite in a pub than that half read mumbo jumbo of a booth haha

Try Dani, it will be a right laugh. It's a little Chinese restaurant and they have these rooms at the back you can hire out. I done it for my 22nd and it's probably one of the funniest times I have had.

il try but ive so much goin on with court so im travellin up and down the country and movin in my flat iv barely time to go clubbin let alone kareoki must admit i usually go kareoki at drinker moth bout once a week in harlow but shhhhhhhh hehe
