The money thing ain't necessarily an issue! I guess it's just a case of whether you can afford to lose a bit of dosh and a lot of time.

If you go into it with that attitude though you will lose money!

You have to go into it with the view to at least break even or get to DJ at it or the fun just disappears

i thikn you have to decide what you want to get out of it. if you want to make cash, plan and execute so you make cash. if you want to have a great time and make some new friends, focus on that. if you want to showcase your dj friends' talents by giving them the opportunity to spin, do that. or whatever.

i think if you have a realistic idea of what you want to achieve and you go for it with a will, there's no reason you can't be successful. if you set the wheels in motion, things will come together and there's every chance you'll have a great time and meet some cool people.

there are many people who are content to sit behind the relative anonymity of a browser and think "i wish i could do that" or, worse, cynically poke holes in other people's ideas. it just takes a bit of self-confidence to become the do-er and that's a whole new world of wonder.

do it!

Not sure I fully agree.

Being prepared for both 'best' and 'worse' (and 'likely') case scenarios is a sensible part of any business plan.

So, you can aim to make a profit (or at least break even), and you can be as shrewd as you like with your money ... but the point is, you don't necessarily consider the venture to be a failure if you make a loss.

As Alasdair says, it's all about why you're doing it in the first place.

Basically all I'm saying is: the reasons you've given above are a crap reason for not doing something! smile.gif

If you set thinking you are going to lose money though you will, its all about being positive & aiming high to achieve the best you can - thats the point i was trying to put across

And yes it all does depend on the reasons you set out to do it which is why my original post about not doing it should be taken tongue in cheek. I promote 4 nights in leeds at the moment, not for myself like Incision was but for someone else. Theres no risk to myself financially & i get paid for it & although its hard work & i have zero spare time, i love it or i wouldnt do it.

One room would be 70's disco's classic played at +10 with porno flicks being shown on large plasma screens on the walls. Gb causalities would be recruited from medical rooms at various hard house events and paided to all stand together in a cage as the crowd watched them drift off, one by one, into a coma. The medical staff would be naked apart from being dressed in leather from the waist up.

Second room would be old skool jungle and Cliffrichard-core and with Stephen Hawkings as the m.c.

Finally the third room would be the loudest room, it would be a galloping horses affair with 89 year old DJ called Alfie. Two pink massive speakers would be most dominant feature of the room and the distorted sound system would pump out speed garage from the late 90's. The treble would be turned off and a a laser would spell out the words 'chill out you fucking lovely person' across the dancefloor.

Just need to find a club now to host it ...

Possibly ... but there's a difference between thinking you're gonna lose money and being prepared to lose money. For every business risk there should be a contingency plan; it doesn't follow that you are being pessimistic just because you're planned for the worst. It's just common sense.

Besides I think we're both saying the same thing in different ways.
