Luckily I didn't give him cash, only cheques and I didn't sign any contracts. I'm soo grateful for that. He didn't give me the deposit cheque back but said he wouldn't cash it, I think I will cancel the cheque to make sure though.

 

My Mam's really chuffed that I'm moving back home!

but you've got your stuff back and you didn't sign a contract, get out there, find another room with a tennancy agreement that actually specifies that room in that house, then skutch your PHd for another year, and come clubbing
