Is the marriage concept dying ?

Yeah its a pretty big gamble that both will grow together in exactly the same way and want the same thing (especially if you were very young when you met)

At any given time, I don't think anybody really imagines that they will change a lot in the future.

 

However at any point in my life, including now, I could look back a year or two and say yes, I have changed a surprising amount.

 

My g/f and I are well different to the way we were when we met (approx 5 years ago). Luckily we still like each other the way we are, and imagine it staying that way for the forseeable future!!

Yep - I guess the worst thing people can do (and I was particularly bad at this) is to keep thinking "what if" and not just "go with the flow" more and literally take each day as it comes - this is what I do now however it means I have no schedule in life / only tomorrow to look forward to - doh !

Or could it be that in this day & age it is all too easy to get the marriaged ended via divorce??

 

Years ago it was not so simple & you had to stick it out & make it work, where as now, a few weeks after you do it, you realise you have made a mistake, you pop along to the solicitor & get the divorce in motion.

Obviously if a thing's worth having, it's sometimes worth working for, but when you see some bickering middle-aged couples who are just 'sticking it out' and barely see eye-to-eye, you have to ask what principle they are trying to defend by carrying on making each other miserable...

That's their loss isn't it! I hardly think the 'hassle' of getting divorced should be the key disincentive. Besides, you can still remarry!
