Revolution was overated guff!

bad ass was ok, but I (personally) cant see how anyone can rate BK as an excellent producer. hes run of the mill.

he makes disposable club tracks, thats all. All (well most) club orientated producers ie trance, hard dance, techno, house etc are the same. I really dont understand why they bother making artist albums. They usually consist of club orientated tracks thrown together with the odd obligatory chill out track to make the album credible. Stick to vinyl singles, its what you're good at.

Why do they bother? Because there are people out there who appreciate the tracks thats why.

As it goes Revolution an absolute brilliant dancefloor track rarely gets better in Hard Trance. Tho I don't rate BK I hate shit like Insane, Bad Ass and accelerate tho I absolutely adore that track he did with Lab 4.

Ben, what is so good about BK? Can you recommend some of his best tracks? I've only heard a few and though produced well, they were completely disposable.

personally i like his style. i have been listening to his tracks since his early hard beat tracks which most of which i highly recommend, and as you say they are produced well, which is the whole point of this post, or have i missed the whole point of 'top 5 producers'

and as for the majority of karim's productions only sounding good on a club sound system, i could knock out a tune in 4hrs that would sound good on a club sound system and i am crap at producing, the skill is to make it sound good no matter what system you are using, which quite simply does not happen with the majority of karim's productions

I was going to post a gag about flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality but it's just flogging a dead horse.

I've heard a few of those tracks (I think I've got a couple myself from my hard house phase) and in retrospect they were pretty mediocre. They certainly sound dated now.

Well if you interpret the word 'producer' in the purest technical sense, it becomes slightly meaningless. Does it really matter how 'polished' a tune is, how crisp it sounds on a given sound system etc etc, if fundamentally it's uninspired and dull?

There are producers out there who are ambitious, creative composers *AND* technically good, so why kick up a fuss about someone just because, on some theoretical scale of pure producing skill, they are great at polishing turds?

Put it another way: that style of hard house has been around for a long time now. There are hundreds of people churning out same-old tunes. So it takes something more than just 'good production' to stand out.

Really what we call a 'producer' is a 'composer and producer', because nowadays it is much more common for people to produce their own compositions with minimal or no assistance from a techy type.
