I agree some cases are sad, but there is ways & means these days for the homeless, lots of schemes etc. To get them back into work & accomadation if they want to.

 

It is all to easy to blame soiciety.

Phil is making a valid point Lisa. Some beggars make hundreds of pounds (tax-free of course) per week.

 

Jess has got the right idea -- don't give money to beggars on the street, give it to a proper charity instead. A massive proportion of beggars in London are bogus.

 

It's easy to spot the 'less deserving' cases ... I've lost count of how many beggars asked for spare change, but when I offered them some free food instead, they actually declined!! As if somebody homeless would turn down free food....

 

Those women begging on the tube (which incidentally is illegal) get on my tits too - carrying a child as emotional blackmail and rattling their change right in front of your face. The London Underground are supposedly trying to stamp that out.

Man, they annoy me so much! I once got the train from Harlow to London and a group of them got on at Ponder's End, laughing and chatting loudly, on their way to a day's begging. They blatantly live on a council estate around that area and have been given free housing and benefits by the government so I don't see why the hell I should give them anything. They also get on the Victoria line at stations like 7 Sisters, where the barriers are often left open so they don't pay the tube fare.

The beggars where I live make a fortune. On a busy Saturday nighy, they make about £60, as people give them notes (they sit by the cashpoint). The aren't really homeless either, and they only beg on busy days. They are always clean, and take aways and stuff, it's just for drugs. they get enough for a hit, and give the money to the dealer who stands down the road. Then they are back a couple of hours later.

I feel sorry for some but it would seem that some or even most are more than happy to live on the streets in this way of life

 

But as Jessica Rabbit and LiquidEyes have both stated you are better to give donations to homeless charities etc rather than giving a begger the cash, or buy them a coffee or a roll
