My cousin is out there right now and has informed me that the country is more or less in total anarchy. I have been lucky to meet a few American troops who have completed their tour of duty and have also informed me that the country is more or less in total anarchy. Considering they have been out there for more than 6 months, I'd say they have a pretty good idea of what state Iraq is currently in. Also there is loads more coverage of the unrest here on American TV and is looks pretty shitty if you ask me. Maybe the Iraqi peoples lives were better under Saddam?

My mates returned a couple of months ago from a tour in Southern Iraq. They said while it was tense, it wasn't anarchy. People got on with their lives and the Army tried it's best to avoid aggrivating the situation. I have some more friends who've just gone back out, things may have changed, but it doesn't seem to be all doom and gloom in Iraq (well so long as you're not a gung ho yank with more bullets than brain cells and a wish to save America by shooting civvies), some describing it something similar to a tour in Northern Ireland.

Under Saddam people where killed, or tortured, or mutilated, manipulated and fed utter bullshit by the media. For the moment at least the Iraqi's aren't living much differently.

If nothing else good comes of this, at least it'll be a lesson for the US. Who invariably must make their own mistakes before they learn.

I think Iraq just proves that they haven't learnt from Vietnam. Is this war going to drag on for 24 years as well, with no proper resolution in the end?

My flatmate is from vietnam originally (her family are southern so were opposed to the communists) and she says that what she's seeing reminds her exactly of the war in vietnam.

The Americans where invited into Vietnam by the then South Vietnamese President Diem to stop the spread of communism.

The Americans invaded Iraq to change regime and kick start a favourable government.

Both conflicts have deployed heavy handed tactics that invariably mean thousands of civilians die. The Americans are at the moment unable to comprehend that civilians really hate being bombed. You can't win if the populace aren't behind you.

I watched the video with morbid curiosity and I can safely say it's the worst thing I have ever done I feel so guilty.

Did the same, in a way i think everyone who goes around saying "eff bush, we shouldn't have gone to war" should be made to watch it... maybe then they'd realise the terrible atrocities that we are fighting against.
