CTW Members dj_triptech Posted October 14, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted October 14, 2004 My rant for the week I think. Am I getting old or what? Seems to me that raves / free parties just dont have the same high energy buzz they used to have. Dont get me wrong everyone there seems to be having a good time BUT its like they dont "get" it. I dunno how to explain it any other way! Ive been partying since 94/95 and I'm sure theres a definate change! but in what? Am I changing? are drugs changing? is the music changing? are people in general changing? I know nothing lasts forever but the roots of something should always stay the same... Im in waffle overload now so i better shut up! ta for reading Si
CTW Members Bunnykins Posted October 14, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted October 14, 2004 Had long chat about this with a couple of mates on sat! Yep its even changed from a year or so ago - no1 seems to be friendly anymore or be up for a laugh. All anyone wants to talk about is djs, the next big night and records etc, its not that I'm not into that but its sooo pretentious - when I use to go down camden it wasnt like that - its like as soon as Camden shut down and died so did a big part of clubbin. Same goes for cyber - I woudlnt be seen dead in it now but we did all have a laugh and things were really mad then - whats happened? I still have a laugh everynow and then but a lot of new people you see out jsut dont seem to be up for it This also really hit home when James put the photos up of Sarah the other night - I'd forgotten quite how mad those days were when we all jsut was out for a laugh til I saw those photos - all really sad tbh. Its interesting subject and defintely true!
CTW Members Alex n Jude Posted October 14, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted October 14, 2004 Hi there. I'm a newbie so please be gentle. Am in my late thirties and didn't even touch Paracetamol til my thirtieth birthday. He he he. But then I saw the light and was completely converted. Think the present atmosphere in clubs has alot to do with "K", or am I talking shite, AGAIN.
CTW Members SexyNic Posted October 14, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted October 14, 2004 dj triptech i agree with you completely, it's like everyone is going through the same motions and it's still enjoyable, but the magic has gone (sorry for talking shit but i know what i mean) alex n jude, i think you are certainly right that that's a big part of it
CTW Members Bunnykins Posted October 14, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted October 14, 2004 I've had some really good laughs on K so for me 'No' thats not the reason but everything in moderation and yeh some people do really overdo it - ending up in a heap in the corner all nite too fcuked to talk prob dont help. I dont know if its just in London tho as in Ibiza it was a totally different vibe, but people here just arnt friendly anymore - its full of music snobs who turn their noses up at you jsut for the fact that you do certain drugs in clubs or that you actualy mite want to have a laugh etc, theres people that dont even dance in some clubs here. I guess its more the funky scene that I'm on about, ie funky house room in Riot is good example. I've only got into funky more lately but it def seems to have an attitude problem that I've never seen in other clubs.

CTW Members Saffy Posted October 15, 2004 CTW Members Share Posted October 15, 2004 Funky House .. definitely time for people to put on their party clobber and show off on the dance floor ....... it's always been like that, even right back in the 70's ... I know, I was there ! lol
CTW Promotors Lisa Posted October 15, 2004 CTW Promotors Share Posted October 15, 2004 I think it is also because there are so many parties out there now, free or otherwise & if you go regularly they do lose their magic & become very samey. & as you say I think you grow up as it were & see it slightly different to when you started & again possibly it is the change in chemicals taken, a mixture of everything Quote Techno, Techno, Techno
Guest
I've been clubing for a few years, im only 23. But each time I have gone clubbing I have had great nights. Very rare I have a shit night. If the DJs are poor, I can still have a wicked, 'buzzing' night. For me, to have a good night, with a load of fun and laughter, I make sure I go to with the right people. I know then, I am in for a good, fun night. It's all about the people / crowd imo.

CTW Admin James Posted October 15, 2004 CTW Admin Share Posted October 15, 2004 Triptech, I know what you mean and its difficult to put your finger on things but one thing for sure for me was that cetain things started to have less of an effect on me and everything became a bit too 'samey' i'm sure people going out for the first time today have the same buzz i had when i first when out i pretty much only go out for the people now and only for a few hours, rather than all night i remember NEVER wanting the night (and then afterparty) to stop - in the early days the afterparties would go on until the monday ! Now I'm happy leaving at 3am never really been into the dj side either for some reason - i treat each night and tune as it comes and i dont reference back to the person who just happened to play it... CTW Admin James Posted October 15, 2004 CTW Admin Share Posted October 15, 2004 ps. 100% agreed with Tasha (bkins) Although I would say that if everyone was truly still up for it we could deffo have some great nights again - just not as many - my days of 2-3 clubs a week have sadly gone - no matter how much energy I have or what I take I'm just not up for it in the same way I used to be - have just learnt to accept this. That said I'm really looking forward to xmas and new year season as the general vibe IS much more like the old days. I think we also need to all take a part in 'making things happen' - rather than waiting for others to arrange stuff for us... CTW Admin James Posted October 15, 2004 CTW Admin Share Posted October 15, 2004 RE: K Sorry I dont agree on this front - I dont think this has anything to do with the 'magic' of the night - I dont tend to take note of who's on what and even if I did I dont let it affect me - I think people should enjoy the night however they want to. I really dont think there are 100s of people at that. What I want to get back are the 'complete package' events - i.e. the ones where we meet up early afternoon, have a few drinks in a pub - then onto a pre-bar meet where more and more people turn up - sort out guestlists/tickets etc.. - have more drinks - then onto the queue and yet more people to speak to - then more banter in the cloakroom queue - then of course the main event - then back into the cloakroom queue on the way out - onto the madness of working out where the cars are - who's got an after party on - who's allowed to go - where the fucking thing is - how we are going to get 30 people into 4 cars - working out where the tube is - saying goodbye 1000 times to people we are giong to the afterparty with in either case - feeling shite - gettnig to the afters and finding 1 chair - realising we should have picked up some FOOD on the way back - so back out again for a really really LONG walk not knowing the area - getting back and then forgetting fags for a spliff - so back out again - then arguging about the volume of the music (some want it on, some want it off to chat) - then remember the night, going through the photos on our camera - and arranging the next night (i.e. we cant WAIT to go out again together) - then sorting out lifts home - finally getting 1 hour sleep before work on the tuesday when your boss looks at you and says "good weekend ?" (your thoughts are "yes- VERY good fucking weekend thankyou !!" but you say "not bad") THE WHOLE PACKAGE DAYS/NIGHTS ARE THE ONES I MISS MOSTLY ! Hence why I'm looking for the events which are a bit different and ideally require an easyjet flight somewhere (e.g. dutch events!)
